Reports to: Director of Marketing/ Chief Operating Officer

Status: Full-time

Travel: Within South Carolina and possible conferences out of state (typically 1 per year)

Position Summary:

SCbio is seeking a visionary Community Outreach Coordinator to educate entrepreneurs, industry partners and local communities about the organization’s latest life sciences hub, Main Street Labs, located in Greenville, S.C.

The community outreach coordinator will be a leader who can blend scientific excellence with entrepreneurial spirit and community impact. They will be responsible for developing community outreach strategies that enhance SCbio’s brand. The ideal candidate will be comfortable communicating and working with multiple organizations involved in the development and deployment of continued entrepreneur growth in the life sciences. This position will work with the SCbio Director of Marketing and the Communications and Event Coordinator, overseeing activities and execution of strategies.

The ideal candidate is a forward-looking leader with a passion for scientific research, entrepreneurship, and community engagement.

The qualified candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree, five years of marketing management experience, life sciences industry experience, or a combination of relevant education and experience.

Core Position Responsibilities:

  • Create and execute a comprehensive community engagement strategy for Main Street Labs.
  • Establish strong relationships with Greenville area startups, community organizations, academic institutions and others to expand the laboratory’s reach and impact.
  • Organize events, workshops, and outreach programs for
  • Manage day-to-day activities and events in the SCbio Main Street Labs space.
  • Support and assist companies at Main Street Labs as needed.
  • Organize events for SCbio members utilizing Main Street Labs space.

Required skills and qualifications:

  • Proven leadership experience within academia, industry, or startup ecosystems, with a keen understanding of innovation dynamics.
  • Exceptional communication skills, capable of engaging diverse audiences including scientists, entrepreneurs, and community members.
  • Demonstrated success in community engagement.
  • Strong organizational and project management capabilities
  • Ability to multitask, meeting multiple deadlines
  • Metrics-driven marketing mind with eye for creativity
  • Experience with marketing automation and CRM tools
  • Ability to work independently
  • Maintain confidentiality and appropriately manage confidential and sensitive information.

Additional Qualifications:

3 – 5 Years Experience with the following:

  • Adobe Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator)
  • Canva (preferred)
  • Excel and Google Sheets
  • Photography/Video
  • Social Media Business Management
  • Project Management
  • Website Design and Management (plus)

Tamia Sumpter

Tamia is a driven senior undergraduate Bioengineering student currently enrolled at Clemson University. With a strong foundation in her field, she has honed her skills through hands-on experience in research and development at Eli Lilly & Company. During her time in the ADME department, Tamia contributed significantly by working on siRNAs and their applications in finding In Vitro-In Vivo Correlation (IVIVC). Looking ahead, Tamia has set her sights on a promising career in law. She aspires to specialize in Intellectual Property Law, with a particular focus on serving as in-house counsel for leading medical device or pharmaceutical companies. Her enthusiasm for this role is palpable as she prepares to embark on her legal journey! She is also a proud member of the Omicron Phi chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., PEER Mentor for Clemson PEER/WiSE, and currently serves as the President of Clemson Bioengineering Organization (CBO). With her unique blend of scientific knowledge and legal interests, Tamia is poised to make a meaningful impact in the healthcare and life sciences industries.
