April may bring showers but it’s also time to celebrate South Carolina’s inaugural Innovation Awareness Month, an initiative undertaken by founders MUSC, the SC Department of Commerce, and South Carolina Research Authority (SCRA) – all supported by a host of partners including SCbio. The goal is to join forces to shine a spotlight on innovation in the Palmetto State.
Gov. Henry McMaster has proclaimed April as Innovation Awareness Month, marking the first ever month-long celebration of the tech and innovation ecosystem in South Carolina. It provides an opportunity for South Carolinians to showcase the cutting-edge ideas of the brightest minds in the state and our nationally recognized culture of innovation.
SCbio also will be celebrating game-changing innovation by several of South Carolina’s most respected life science organizations. Among those we’ll highlight the amazing work of are:
- Elastrin Therapeutics
- Glycopath
- Journey Lights
- Kiyatec
- Leukogene
- PulManage
- Rymedi
- Efferent Labs
- Zylö Therapeutics
Currently ranked 13th in the country in the percentage of establishments in high-tech industries, South Carolina is home to a robust mix of academia, entrepreneurship, government, and industry collaborators that support both a robust knowledge economy and a fertile ecosystem for innovation.
The month will showcase the accomplishments of citizens, businesses and educational institutions in technology, health and life sciences, and other fields while spotlighting South Carolina offerings in technology, research and product development that produce real-world impact.
