Tell us about your role in SC’s Life Sciences Ecosystem…

The products we make in Charleston are critical to the global biopharmaceutical supply chain. Our presence in South Carolina has nearly doubled in the past 4 years. Our growth and the overall growth of the life sciences sector is indicative of SCbio’s ongoing efforts and support.


Tell us what value and benefits your organization is receiving through membership in SCbio…

The principal benefit I see is working together with other companies inour space on a common vision to support the growth of the Life Sciences ecosystem in South Carolina. The SCbio team does a great job helping this community identify and address common challenges we face in SC. One example of this is how they are proactively addressing workforce development for the Life Sciences Industry. 


 What are you focused on in the next year?

We look forward to continuing to meet global demand for our products and services, and the key to doing that is our people. Our associates are keenly aware of the vital role they play in protecting patient safety across the globe, and we’ll continue to focus on career development and enhanced learning and development opportunities to give them the opportunity to thrive.

Tamia Sumpter

Tamia is a driven senior undergraduate Bioengineering student currently enrolled at Clemson University. With a strong foundation in her field, she has honed her skills through hands-on experience in research and development at Eli Lilly & Company. During her time in the ADME department, Tamia contributed significantly by working on siRNAs and their applications in finding In Vitro-In Vivo Correlation (IVIVC). Looking ahead, Tamia has set her sights on a promising career in law. She aspires to specialize in Intellectual Property Law, with a particular focus on serving as in-house counsel for leading medical device or pharmaceutical companies. Her enthusiasm for this role is palpable as she prepares to embark on her legal journey! She is also a proud member of the Omicron Phi chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., PEER Mentor for Clemson PEER/WiSE, and currently serves as the President of Clemson Bioengineering Organization (CBO). With her unique blend of scientific knowledge and legal interests, Tamia is poised to make a meaningful impact in the healthcare and life sciences industries.
